Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.32%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.32%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which rose 5.27% or 289.00 points to trade at 5,769.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) added 5.13% or 363.00 points to end at 7,445.00 and Ebara Corp. (TYO:6361) was up 4.75% or 378.00 points to 8,340.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Central Japan Railway Co. (TYO:9022), which fell 2.62% or 95.00 points to trade at 3,535.00 at the close. Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568) declined 2.40% or 96.00 points to end at 3,909.00 and Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902) was down 2.21% or 9.40 points to 416.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2365 to 1273 and 246 ended unchanged.

Shares in Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.21% or 9.40 to 416.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.75% to 18.51.

Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.04% or 0.03 to $72.79 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.18% or 0.14 to hit $78.09 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.13% or 2.65 to trade at $2,037.85 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.64% to 143.66, while EUR/JPY rose 0.64% to 156.98.

The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 102.18.
