India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 2.07%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 2.07% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 2.05%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 7.45% or 289.80 points to trade at 4,181.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) added 7.13% or 168.50 points to end at 2,531.20 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 6.14% or 50.85 points to 878.65 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which fell 1.06% or 7.20 points to trade at 674.95 at the close. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) declined 0.74% or 36.75 points to end at 4,934.00 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was down 0.09% or 0.35 points to 407.30.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 4.68% to 990.60, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 3.99% to settle at 594.65 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 3.88% to close at 3,313.65.

The worst performers were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 0.10% to 407.30 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 0.04% to settle at 10,580.30 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 0.01% to 3,510.05 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1345 to 759 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2272 rose and 1426 declined, while 175 ended unchanged.

Shares in Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) rose to all time highs; rising 7.45% or 289.80 to 4,181.00. Shares in Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) rose to all time highs; rising 3.88% or 123.70 to 3,313.65.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.93% to 12.99.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.19% or 3.90 to $2,085.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.54% or 0.40 to hit $73.67 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.53% or 0.42 to trade at $78.46 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.16% to 83.36, while EUR/INR fell 0.23% to 90.54.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 103.35.
