Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.56%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.56%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Collins Foods Ltd (ASX:CKF), which rose 17.68% or 1.39 points to trade at 9.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Scentre Group Ltd (ASX:SCG) added 3.98% or 0.10 points to end at 2.61 and Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) was up 3.51% or 0.08 points to 2.36 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Perenti Global Ltd (ASX:PRN), which fell 6.09% or 0.07 points to trade at 1.08 at the close. Medibank Private Ltd (ASX:MPL) declined 3.91% or 0.14 points to end at 3.44 and Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB) was down 3.56% or 0.04 points to 1.09.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 730 to 593 and 439 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.47% to 13.17.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.20% or 3.85 to $1,937.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.66% or 0.46 to hit $69.83 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.42 to trade at $74.77 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.54% to 0.67, while AUD/JPY rose 0.44% to 96.22.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 102.18.
