Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.33%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.33%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735), which rose 5.35% or 580.00 points to trade at 11,430.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531) added 4.31% or 110.00 points to end at 2,660.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) was up 3.70% or 430.00 points to 12,050.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TYO:7201), which fell 3.38% or 16.90 points to trade at 483.30 at the close. Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) declined 3.20% or 22.00 points to end at 665.00 and Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) was down 2.41% or 29.00 points to 1,175.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2075 to 1434 and 326 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.37% to 16.04 a new 1-month low.

Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.54% or 0.42 to $76.95 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.49% or 0.40 to hit $80.70 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 1.15% or 23.15 to trade at $1,995.95 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 134.07, while EUR/JPY fell 0.25% to 146.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 101.70.
