: Mercedes-Benz unveils EV charging plans, starting with U.S. and Canada

Mercedes-Benz Group AG on Thursday announced sweeping plans for a global charging network that would start in the U.S. and Canada.

The goal is to have a “full network in place before the end of the decade,” which is when the auto maker plans to go all-electric, the company said.

The company will investment more than 1 billion euros (about $1.05 billion) over six to seven years to get the North American network going, it said.

The charging hubs will be located in major cities, close to major roads, retail and service destinations, including some Mercedes-Benz dealerships, it said.

Mercedes-Benz’s customers will have preferential access through reservations function and other benefits, the company said.

Mercedes-Benz’s push for a charging network is part of a broader focus on EVs, from startups such as Rivian Automotive Inc.
