India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.93%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.93%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.86%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which rose 6.27% or 488.25 points to trade at 8,271.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 5.93% or 149.65 points to end at 2,674.10 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 5.87% or 156.30 points to 2,819.05 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which fell 1.62% or 40.65 points to trade at 2,464.95 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 1.23% or 2.20 points to end at 177.15 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was down 1.19% or 2.50 points to 208.15.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 6.33% to 8,274.60, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 4.41% to settle at 1,028.05 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 3.39% to close at 2,758.60.

The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.62% to 2,464.60 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 0.94% to settle at 136.35 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 0.90% to 208.60 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1236 to 575 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2007 rose and 1181 declined, while 128 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.97% to 20.88.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.41% or 7.55 to $1,830.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.46% or 0.49 to hit $105.70 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.34 to trade at $111.40 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.17% to 78.31, while EUR/INR fell 0.36% to 82.28.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 104.34.
