Democrats and Republicans have been warring over social spending and infrastructure this week, but one battle that you may not have heard much about happened Wednesday night outside on a field of grass.
The annual Congressional Baseball Game was played on Wednesday night at Nationals Park, and the Republicans beat the Democrats 13-12.
“I’m fired up,” California Democrat Eric Swalwell said before the game.
Congressman Greg Steube, a Republican from Florida’s 17th district, hit a home run and posted it on Twitter

with the caption, “Hey Biden, watch this!”
“You need to do this every now and then, where you get away from the madness and come out and play the kid’s game in the big league ballpark,” said House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, a Louisiana Republican. “You’re competing, and it was very intense competition. But we’re going to go back to work tomorrow, but it’s nice to just come and do something like this where you can build better relationships.”

Four years ago, at a GOP practice for the 2017 game, Scalise was shot and wounded by a Illinois man. Scalise received an ovation after returning to the field the following year.
President Biden attended the game, which was played in the stadium where the Washington Nationals play their home games.

The Congressional Baseball Game was inaugurated in 1909, and proceeds from the event go to Washington-area charities such as the Washington Literacy Center, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Washington Nationals Philanthropies and the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial Fund.
The game was held as Congress was targeting Thursday votes on a short-term spending bill to keep the federal government operating through early December.
