The incentives for people to get the COVID-19 vaccine are piling up.

has announced it will give free burritos and other entrees to customers who have been vaccinated in the latest instance of a company trying to help boost the U.S. vaccination rate two days after the country narrowly missed a vaccine-administration goal set two months ago by President Joe Biden.

and many others in trying to entice people to get a COVID vaccine via various incentives.

“As a proud participant in the National Month of Action for Vaccinations, we are encouraging our fans to give their friends free Chipotle as a craveable reward for getting vaccinated,” Chipotle’s chief marketing officer, Chris Brandt, said in a statement.
Each free burrito or other participating entree requires a purchase and is available for in-restaurant customers only — the promotion is in effect on Tuesday, July 6, from 3 p.m. to closing time.
The announcement from Chipotle does not specify whether or not people need to show a vaccination card, only that people need to say “Friends BOGO” at time of purchase.
The Chipotle announcement comes with Biden set to speak Tuesday afternoon on the U.S. COVID response and vaccinations.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that of the over 9,000 U.S. coronavirus deaths in June, 99.2% were among unvaccinated people.
“It’s really sad and tragic that most all of these are avoidable and preventable,” Fauci said, particularly when COVID-19 vaccines are “highly, highly effective.”
