At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.06%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.69%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.88%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 1.34% or 5.44 points to trade at 411.34 at the close. Meanwhile, Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 2.59% or 1.67 points to end at 66.22 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) was up 1.24% or 1.94 points to 158.53 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which fell 3.54% or 4.69 points to trade at 127.85 at the close. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 2.94% or 6.58 points to end at 217.18 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was down 0.66% or 1.56 points to 233.63.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Arconic Corp (NYSE:ARNC) which rose 19.21% to 35.00, Gartner Inc (NYSE:IT) which was up 14.22% to settle at 225.49 and Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE:SEE) which gained 9.51% to close at 54.92.
The worst performers were IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ:IPGP) which was down 10.44% to 189.49 in late trade, Align Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ALGN) which lost 2.94% to settle at 582.15 and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which was down 4.05% to 67.28 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cocrystal Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:COCP) which rose 72.58% to 2.1400, BioLineRx Ltd (NASDAQ:BLRX) which was up 52.98% to settle at 4.880 and Neuronetics Inc (NASDAQ:STIM) which gained 39.21% to close at 14.13.
The worst performers were ChemoCentryx Inc (NASDAQ:CCXI) which was down 45.45% to 26.63 in late trade, Sequential Brands Group Inc (NASDAQ:SQBG) which lost 37.66% to settle at 17.0200 and Image Sensing Systems Inc (NASDAQ:ISNS) which was down 23.96% to 8.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1861 to 1342 and 103 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2463 fell and 847 advanced, while 120 ended unchanged.
Shares in Arconic Corp (NYSE:ARNC) rose to 5-year highs; up 19.21% or 5.64 to 35.00. Shares in Gartner Inc (NYSE:IT) rose to all time highs; up 14.22% or 28.08 to 225.49. Shares in Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE:SEE) rose to 5-year highs; up 9.51% or 4.77 to 54.92. Shares in UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) rose to all time highs; up 1.34% or 5.44 to 411.34. Shares in Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.59% or 1.67 to 66.22. Shares in The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) rose to all time highs; rising 1.24% or 1.94 to 158.53. Shares in ChemoCentryx Inc (NASDAQ:CCXI) fell to 52-week lows; down 45.45% or 22.19 to 26.63. Shares in BioLineRx Ltd (NASDAQ:BLRX) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 52.98% or 1.690 to 4.880.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 6.39% to 19.48 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.79% or 14.10 to $1777.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.73% or 1.76 to hit $66.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.83% or 1.91 to trade at $69.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.00% to 1.2013, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 109.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 91.270.
