Some “Saturday Night Live” cast members aren’t laughing about Elon Musk’s upcoming hosting gig.
The news that the controversial Tesla
TSLA,
CEO will helm NBC’s live sketch comedy show on May 8 has drawn a variety of reactions over the past couple of days.
And it appears that some of the stars are either confused or outright critical about sharing the stage with one of the world’s richest people, who has been called out for online bullying, downplaying the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for butting heads with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) repeatedly.

Bowen Yang and Andrew Dismukes both shared messages on their Instagram stories on Sunday that mocked the guest star. It should be noted that images and videos posted as an Instagram “story” disappear after 24 hours, unless the poster chooses to make them a highlight. So only the screenshots of these original posts remain.
Yang had posted a screengrab of Musk’s tweet, “Let’s find out how live ‘Saturday Night Live’ really is,” and written underneath it, “What the f— does this even mean?” And Dismukes posted a picture of former “SNL” star Cheri Oteri in his Instagram stories, along with the caption, “ONLY CEO I WANT TO DO A SKETCH WITH IS Cher-E Oteri.”
Aidy Bryant appeared to take a more subtle swipe, however, sharing a March 25 Instagram post from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders that read, “The 50 wealthiest people in America today own more wealth than the bottom half of our people. … That is a moral obscenity.”
Considering that she shared this month-old post after Musk’s guest appearance was announced — and the Tesla billionaire is the second richest person in the world, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, or the third wealthiest if you follow Forbes — many of her followers have interpreted this as a dig against Musk.
“SNL” writer Sudi Green also shared Sanders’s post.

“SNL” caught similar flack in 2015 when it invited then-presidential candidate Donald Trump to host. Former cast member Taran Killam called the move “embarrassing and shameful” at the time.
