Since the introduction of the Porsche Taycan EV, Porsche

has been inching ever closer to the impossible: one vehicle that meets almost every common need or request. One that moves like a world-class performance car but offers usable space for five adults. One with zero emissions.

They may have found it in the 2021 Taycan Cross Turismo. This electric vehicle has just enough of the ride-height and sure-footedness of an SUV but not so much as to lose its sports car balance.

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

Porsche

A slightly lifted, wagon version of the 2021 Taycan, the Cross Turismo comes in four power and fast trim levels. Even the slowest model (the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo) can go from 0-to-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The quickest (the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo) can do it in 2 seconds flat. An electric overboost system can give a temporary surge of power, so Porsche lists both a horsepower rating and an overboost rating for each:

  • Taycan 4 Cross Turismo: 375/469 horsepower

  • Taycan 4S Cross Turismo: 482/562 horsepower

  • Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo: 616/670 horsepower

  • Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo: 616/750 horsepower

The Cross Turismo rides 0.8 inches higher than its sedan cousins. It is all-wheel drive (with one motor per axle in every configuration). This new Porsche features an adaptive air suspension that can raise the car’s ride height another 0.39 inches. It also offers driving modes for smooth, rough, or slippery surfaces.

More interior space

Inside, it’s considerably roomier than the standard Taycan. Front-seat occupants get 0.35 inches more headroom, while those in back get a full 3.62 inches. Rear cargo space is up to 15.7 cubic feet for non-turbo models – up from 14.3 in the sedan. Turbo models get just 14.3, but that compares to 12.9 for turbo-equipped Taycan sedans. With the seats folded, maximum cargo volume is a handy 42.8 cubic feet for the Taycan 4 and 4S. It’s down to 41.3 for the Turbo and Turbo S.

The Taycan 4 Cross Turismo starts at $92,250, which is a major jump from the base, rear-wheel-drive Taycan’s starting price of $81,250. However, simply adding air suspension and the large battery will bring the price of that base Taycan to a much closer $89,230. So for that extra $3,000, you’re getting more power, all-wheel drive, a panoramic sunroof, and extra space, making it an impressive value. Pricing for the other Cross Turismo models hasn’t been revealed yet, but expect them to be a bit more than the sedans they’re based on.

2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo pricing:
  • Taycan 4 Cross Turismo: $92,250

  • Taycan 4S Cross Turismo: $111,650

  • Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo: $154,850

  • Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo: $188,950
