Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.63%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.63%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Cromwell Property Group (ASX:CMW), which rose 2.48% or 0.020 points to trade at 0.825 at the close. Meanwhile, GWA Group Ltd (ASX:GWA) added 2.22% or 0.08 points to end at 3.68 and Charter Hall Long WALE REIT (ASX:CLW) was up 1.69% or 0.08 points to 4.82 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:WGX), which fell 7.41% or 0.160 points to trade at 2.000 at the close. AP Eagers Ltd (ASX:APE) declined 6.37% or 0.93 points to end at 13.68 and Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX:PRU) was down 5.20% or 0.065 points to 1.185.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 784 to 549 and 371 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 9.70% to 16.091 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.34% or 6.25 to $1820.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.77% or 0.45 to hit $57.79 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.38 to trade at $60.76 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7747, while AUD/JPY rose 0.06% to 81.23.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 90.468.
