India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.11%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.11%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.11%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 6.73% or 16.50 points to trade at 261.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 3.95% or 22.95 points to end at 603.50 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was up 2.54% or 12.95 points to 522.35 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which fell 3.95% or 41.60 points to trade at 1011.00 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) declined 3.77% or 38.70 points to end at 989.00 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was down 3.64% or 16.55 points to 437.80.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.84% to 602.50, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 1.77% to settle at 217.90 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 0.16% to close at 3580.00.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 3.92% to 1011.70 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 3.73% to settle at 989.40 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 3.48% to 101.35 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1201 to 445 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1853 fell and 1043 advanced, while 132 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 6.73% or 16.50 to 261.60. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) rose to all time highs; rising 3.95% or 22.95 to 603.50. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.84% or 22.30 to 602.50.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.27% to 24.0100 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.18% or 3.30 to $1854.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.44% or 0.77 to hit $52.80 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.67% or 0.94 to trade at $55.48 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.02% to 73.058, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 88.6775.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 90.335.
