Amazon.com Inc. has announced the launch of Amazon One, a contactless device that scans for payments, loyalty programs and more.

Amazon One is rolling out at two of the e-commerce giant’s Amazon Go stores in Seattle, where it’ll be used to gain entry. Customers will first swipe their credit card, then wave their palm above the device to register their “palm signature.”

Once enrolled, customers can enter Amazon Go stores by waving their hand. Amazon AMZN, +2.55% will roll out the device at more of its stores in the coming months.

Those who don’t want to use their palm to gain entry to Amazon Go stores can still use an Amazon app or speak with an associate to pay in cash.

Amazon is making the device available to other companies that can use it for contactless payments, where employees check in for work, at stadium or office building entry points and for other purposes.

Last week, Amazon unveiled new Echo devices, new offerings in gaming and a new home drone that has raised privacy concerns.

Amazon addressed privacy concerns about Amazon One on its blog.

“[T]he Amazon One device is protected by multiple security controls and palm images are never stored on the Amazon One device,” the company says. “Rather, the images are encrypted and sent to a highly secure area we custom-built in the cloud where we create your palm signature. “

On Monday, Amazon also announced the dates for this year’s delayed Prime Day event: Oct. 13 and Oct. 14. The event could serve as the kick-off to the holiday shopping season.

Amazon stock has soared nearly 72% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index SPX, +1.61% is up 3.7%.
