Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.68%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.68%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were New Hope Corporation Ltd (ASX:NHC), which rose 8.48% or 0.095 points to trade at 1.215 at the close. Meanwhile, Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) added 7.78% or 0.97 points to end at 13.44 and Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) was up 7.26% or 0.065 points to 0.960 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cleanaway Waste Management Ltd (ASX:CWY), which fell 7.14% or 0.180 points to trade at 2.340 at the close. Nearmap Ltd (ASX:NEA) declined 6.50% or 0.160 points to end at 2.300 and Ioof Holdings Ltd (ASX:IFL) was down 4.91% or 0.16 points to 3.10.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 727 to 560 and 329 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 7.61% to 20.944.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.28% or 5.45 to $1953.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.13% or 0.05 to hit $37.38 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.02 to trade at $39.81 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7282, while AUD/JPY fell 0.14% to 77.21.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.185.
