Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.58%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.58%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB), which rose 39.05% or 1.320 points to trade at 4.700 at the close. Meanwhile, Computershare Ltd. (ASX:CPU) added 7.79% or 1.02 points to end at 14.11 and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) was up 6.47% or 0.37 points to 6.09 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC), which fell 3.65% or 0.050 points to trade at 1.320 at the close. TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX:TPG) declined 3.25% or 0.250 points to end at 7.450 and Shopping Centres Australasia Group (ASX:SCP) was down 3.17% or 0.070 points to 2.140.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 784 to 463 and 347 ended unchanged.

Shares in Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) fell to 3-years lows; losing 3.65% or 0.050 to 1.320.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.97% to 18.683.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.89% or 17.45 to $1952.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.40% or 0.17 to hit $42.41 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.18 to trade at $45.14 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.7154, while AUD/JPY rose 0.03% to 76.45.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 93.252.
