Investing.com – Airlines were given a boost on Wednesday as Reuters reported that 16 Republican Senators had backed plans for another $25 billion in aid package to support the battered airline industry.

The airline industry was given $32 billion in federal aid in March, in the hope =s that travel demand would return. But the spread of Covid-19 picked up pace, and led some states to rein in reopening measures, leaving travel demand on its knees.

American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) surged 11%, United Airlines (NASDAQ:UAL) was up 5% and Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) was up 4%.
