Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.26%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.26%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713), which rose 5.74% or 184.0 points to trade at 3390.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) added 5.02% or 74.0 points to end at 1547.0 and DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432) was up 4.95% or 63.0 points to 1337.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Yamaha Corp. (T:7951), which fell 7.50% or 395.0 points to trade at 4875.0 at the close. Softbank Group Corp. (T:9984) declined 4.19% or 288.0 points to end at 6593.0 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) was down 3.77% or 330.0 points to 8430.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1847 to 1608 and 216 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 23.75.

Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.62% or 0.26 to $41.96 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.63% or 0.28 to hit $44.71 a barrel, while the October Gold Futures contract rose 1.48% or 29.70 to trade at $2038.20 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 105.73, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 124.97.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 93.078.
