India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.26%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.26%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 5.46% or 27.85 points to trade at 537.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 5.11% or 35.05 points to end at 721.00 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was up 4.98% or 30.05 points to 633.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 2.74% or 581.35 points to trade at 20620.00 at the close. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) declined 1.84% or 38.85 points to end at 2070.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) was down 1.66% or 17.40 points to 1033.25.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 4.27% to 531.75, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 2.63% to settle at 191.45 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.20% to close at 611.00.

The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.98% to 2066.95 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 1.69% to settle at 1032.65 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.52% to 1716.65 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 892 to 697 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1349 fell and 1157 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 5.46% or 27.85 to 537.80. Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) rose to 3-years highs; up 5.11% or 35.05 to 721.00. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.27% or 21.80 to 531.75.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.16% to 24.1925.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.49% or 28.90 to $1971.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.53% or 0.21 to hit $40.13 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.17 to trade at $43.42 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.11% to 74.793, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 88.6710.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 92.823.
