Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 3.45%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 3.45%, while the MDAX index lost 2.10%, and the TecDAX index fell 2.68%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which fell 1.47% or 0.82 points to trade at 55.04 at the close. Meanwhile, MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn) fell 1.73% or 2.55 points to end at 145.25 and Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) was down 1.88% or 1.61 points to 83.99 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG), which fell 11.47% or 0.241 points to trade at 1.860 at the close. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) declined 6.87% or 3.120 points to end at 42.300 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) was down 6.85% or 9.43 points to 128.17.

The top performers on the MDAX were Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which rose 5.25% to 15.127, Airbus Group SE (DE:AIRG) which was up 1.54% to settle at 63.25 and Osram Licht AG (DE:OSRn) which gained 0.64% to close at 43.82.

The worst performers were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 8.56% to 78.000 in late trade, Grenke N AG (DE:GLJn) which lost 7.39% to settle at 63.90 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which was down 5.35% to 70.70 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which rose 5.25% to 15.127, New Work SE (DE:NWOn) which was unchanged 0.00% to settle at 273.50 and Qiagen NV (DE:QIA) which lost 0.01% to close at 42.575.

The worst performers were Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was down 11.47% to 1.860 in late trade, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which lost 8.56% to settle at 78.000 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 5.30% to 59.800 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 576 to 97 and 78 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 15.59% to 30.10.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.60% or 11.70 to $1941.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.54% or 1.05 to hit $40.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.77% or 0.78 to trade at $43.31 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.27% to 1.1822, while EUR/GBP fell 0.35% to 0.9039.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 93.067.
