Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.87%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.87%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which rose 4.47% or 69.0 points to trade at 1612.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801) added 3.82% or 68.5 points to end at 1859.5 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:5541) was up 2.99% or 47.0 points to 1617.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506), which fell 4.03% or 165.0 points to trade at 3930.0 at the close. Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (T:9009) declined 3.32% or 105.0 points to end at 3060.0 and Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602) was down 3.31% or 120.0 points to 3510.0.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2139 to 1313 and 208 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 23.43.

Crude oil for August delivery was down 2.00% or 0.80 to $39.30 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 1.73% or 0.74 to hit $41.98 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.68% or 12.35 to trade at $1801.75 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.02% to 107.28, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 121.56.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 96.630.
