India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.56%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.56% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.57%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS), which rose 9.51% or 452.80 points to trade at 5216.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) added 9.06% or 16.85 points to end at 202.75 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 8.15% or 176.15 points to 2337.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which fell 3.30% or 4.90 points to trade at 143.65 at the close. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 1.87% or 108.60 points to end at 5685.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was down 1.39% or 4.80 points to 341.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 8.64% to 2346.70, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 7.56% to settle at 1343.65 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 6.74% to close at 437.70.

The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.74% to 5688.00 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 1.69% to settle at 197.20 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.07% to 96.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1199 to 351 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1660 rose and 676 declined, while 145 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.04% to 30.1150 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.04% or 0.70 to $1749.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.74% or 0.97 to hit $36.41 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.87% or 1.10 to trade at $39.42 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.50% to 75.125, while EUR/INR fell 0.18% to 83.9105.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 97.537.
