At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 2.56%, while the MDAX index fell 1.15%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.53%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG), which fell 0.34% or 0.250 points to trade at 72.870 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) fell 0.53% or 0.57 points to end at 106.33 and SAP SE (DE:SAPG) was down 0.76% or 0.810 points to 105.880 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG), which fell 7.28% or 5.63 points to trade at 71.74 at the close. Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) declined 6.42% or 1.970 points to end at 28.710 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) was down 6.35% or 0.413 points to 6.093.
The top performers on the MDAX were United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which rose 4.95% to 34.360, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was up 2.64% to settle at 45.16 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which gained 2.39% to close at 300.000.
The worst performers were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which was down 7.64% to 22.850 in late trade, Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) which lost 7.09% to settle at 2.986 and Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which was down 6.56% to 10.3250 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which rose 5.08% to 22.340, United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which was up 4.95% to settle at 34.360 and TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which gained 2.64% to close at 45.16.
The worst performers were Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which was down 4.73% to 20.960 in late trade, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which lost 4.64% to settle at 114.500 and Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was down 3.58% to 9.220 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 546 to 138 and 57 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 15.28% to 35.31.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.53% or 9.00 to $1715.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.44% or 0.37 to hit $25.41 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.17% or 0.65 to trade at $29.33 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.24% to 1.0819, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.8844.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 100.243.
