Capitol Report: Larry Summers reportedly advising Biden’s campaign on economic policy

Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers is advising Joe Biden’s presidential campaign on economic policy, according to a published report Thursday.

A Bloomberg News report said part of Summers’ advisory role involves the campaign’s plans to revive the U.S. economy after the coronavirus pandemic.

The report notes Summers was at the top of a “do not appoint” list published by progressives. Summers’ role will likely roil progressives, who view his work on the 2009 economic recovery as too favorable to big banks, Bloomberg wrote.

Bloomberg said Summers didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. A Biden aide told the publication that the campaign is in touch with a “very large and well-rounded” group of informal advisers and “looks forward” to engaging with progressive leaders.
