Disgraced lawyer Michael Cohen will be released from an upstate New York prison over coronavirus concerns, sources said.
President Donald Trump’s former fixer must first complete a 14-day solitary isolation period at Otisville Federal prison that begins Friday, before he’s let out on home confinement, according to sources.
Cohen, in March, had unsuccessfully argued he should be released from prison because of the pandemic.
His lawyers had argued in a letter to a Manhattan federal judge that Federal Bureau of Prisons is “demonstrably incapable of safeguarding and treating B.O.P. inmates who are obliged to live in close quarters and are at an enhanced risk of catching the virus.”
That request was denied by a Judge William Pauley, who wrote in an order that Cohen was trying to “inject himself into the news cycle” in his latest plea for freedom.
The 53-year-old disbarred lawyer was sentenced to three years in prison in 2018 for lying to Congress and violating US campaign finance laws.
He will be able to finish out his sentence in home confinement, according to sources.
Earlier this month, Cohen was briefly placed in solitary confinement after getting into a scuffle with another inmate, The Post exclusively reported.
