Former President Barack Obama is poised to publicly endorse Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination after waiting to see who would emerge from a crowded presidential field during the party’s early primaries.
Obama is slated to release a video later Tuesday backing his former vice president, according to press reports. CBS News initially broke the news.
Obama had declined to endorse his former vice president early in the process, preferring to let a record number of candidates duke it out for the Democratic nomination.
The move would come a day after Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders also endorsed Biden and ended his own bid for the White House.
