JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Jamie Dimon successfully underwent emergency heart surgery and is recovering, the bank said Thursday.
“We want to let you know that Jamie experienced an acute aortic dissection this morning,” JPMorgan said in a memo to bank employees that was obtained by CNBC. “He underwent successful emergency heart surgery to repair the dissection. The good news is that it was caught early and the surgery was successful. He is awake, alert and recovering well.”
Shares of JPMorgan JPM, -4.90% fell 1,5% in after-hours trading, after the surgery was reported.
The bank said co-Presidents Daniel Pinto and Gordon Smith will lead the company during Dimon’s recovery.
