Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the lost 0.23%, while the index fell 0.13%.

The best performers of the session on the were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:), which rose 3.10% or 13.80 points to trade at 458.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:) added 2.15% or 47.50 points to end at 2255.25 and Yes Bank Ltd (NS:) was up 2.22% or 1.00 points to 46.05 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:), which fell 4.34% or 903.80 points to trade at 19892.20 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:) declined 2.53% or 5.20 points to end at 200.20 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:) was down 2.20% or 29.00 points to 1291.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) which rose 2.74% to 457.55, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:) which was up 2.26% to settle at 2255.05 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:) which gained 2.11% to close at 46.05.

The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.19% to 1291.35 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:) which lost 1.75% to settle at 123.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which was down 1.40% to 440.10 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 947 to 595 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1367 fell and 967 advanced, while 166 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.05% to 15.6400 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.61% or 9.55 to $1583.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.40% or 0.25 to hit $62.95 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.54 to trade at $68.81 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.17% to 71.718, while EUR/INR fell 0.35% to 79.8365.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 96.755.
