Former U.S. President Barack Obama

According to former President Barack Obama, one gender just seems to make things more difficult than the other.

At a leadership event in Singapore, Obama said most problems came from men holding onto power, according to the BBC.

“Now women, I just want you to know; you are not perfect, but what I can say pretty indisputably is that you’re better than us. I’m absolutely confident that for two years if every nation on earth was run by women, you would see a significant improvement across the board on just about everything… living standards and outcomes.”

Whether intended or not, Obama’s comment has particular relevance in the U.S., where his former vice president, Joe Biden, is trying to secure the Democratic nomination against Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Finland last week is giving Obama’s idea a chance, as the 34-year-old Sanna Marin is leading a cabinet dominated by women.

In fairness, it should be noted that women leaders have not necessarily led to a significant improvement in outcomes.

Germany has only barely escaped recession in the third quarter under the helm of Angela Merkel, who has been the country’s chancellor since 2005. The economy last briefly fell into recession in late 2012-early 2013.

In the U.K., Theresa May was unable to convince Parliament to ratify her Brexit plan. Her successor, Boris Johnson, won a landslide election victory last week and said he will begin to seek Parliamentary approval for his Brexit plan before Christmas.
