U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.15%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the lost 0.15%, while the index lost 0.36%, and the index declined 0.72%.

The best performers of the session on the were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:), which rose 2.60% or 3.10 points to trade at 122.18 at the close. Meanwhile, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:) added 2.28% or 5.56 points to end at 249.48 and United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:) was up 2.21% or 3.06 points to 141.41 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:), which fell 8.29% or 11.76 points to trade at 130.15 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:) declined 5.04% or 10.58 points to end at 199.27 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was down 3.81% or 3.22 points to 81.30.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Biogen Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 26.11% to 281.87, Harley-Davidson Inc (NYSE:) which was up 7.98% to settle at 40.04 and Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:) which gained 6.88% to close at 19.420.

The worst performers were Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 16.76% to 100.02 in late trade, The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) which lost 8.29% to settle at 130.15 and Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 7.05% to 129.38 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Trovagene Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 70.48% to 1.790, Biontech Se (NASDAQ:) which was up 26.78% to settle at 20.64 and Biogen Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 26.11% to close at 281.87.

The worst performers were Tile Shop Hldgs Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 66.27% to 1.130 in late trade, Pareteum Corp (NASDAQ:) which lost 59.53% to settle at 0.299 and Osmotica Pharmaceuticals PLC (NASDAQ:) which was down 27.00% to 3.46 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1618 to 1224 and 103 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1419 fell and 1196 advanced, while 83 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tile Shop Hldgs Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 66.27% or 2.220 to 1.130. Shares in Biontech Se (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; rising 26.78% or 4.36 to 20.64. Shares in Pareteum Corp (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 59.53% or 0.440 to 0.299.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.29% to 14.46.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.17% or 2.55 to $1490.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.53% or 0.82 to hit $54.33 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $59.65 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.1125, while USD/JPY rose 0.00% to 108.47.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 97.262.
