Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the rose 0.31%, while the index gained 0.24%.

The best performers of the session on the were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:), which rose 4.31% or 21.15 points to trade at 512.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:) added 3.47% or 24.45 points to end at 730.85 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:) was up 3.71% or 9.30 points to 259.65 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:), which fell 2.83% or 75.65 points to trade at 2602.35 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:) declined 2.36% or 4.55 points to end at 187.95 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:) was down 2.48% or 3.80 points to 149.90.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:) which rose 3.57% to 4018.75, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.05% to settle at 141.60 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.88% to close at 2051.00.

The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.73% to 2603.00 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:) which lost 2.44% to settle at 149.70 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:) which was down 2.04% to 1765.70 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 817 to 756 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1266 fell and 1096 advanced, while 180 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.91% to 16.3600.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 3.10 to $1486.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $52.84 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.10 to trade at $58.64 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.01% to 71.484, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 78.8570.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 98.058.
