WASHINGTON — Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani wasn’t the only attorney of President Trump who was trying to get Ukrainian officials to probe Joe Biden.
Fox News reported Sunday that Washington lawyers Joseph diGenova and Victoria Toensing, a married couple, were also working with Giuliani.
In March 2018, diGenova and Toensing were named as lawyers expected to join the president’s legal team as he lined up a defense to combat special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe. Days later, the president decided to not hire the couple, as Toensing had conflicts, having defended witnesses already interviewed by Mueller’s team.
Another one of Trump’s personal lawyers, Jay Sekulow, put out a statement saying, “However, those conflicts do not prevent them from assisting the president in other legal matters. The president looks forward to working with them.”
On “Fox News Sunday,” host Chris Wallace didn’t provide additional details on how much work diGenova and Toensing did with Ukraine.
Asked about Wallace’s reporting on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, Giuliani pushed back on the assertion that he had help from the two lawyers. “No I didn’t work with anybody to try to get dirt on Joe Biden,” he said.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday that the Democrats would continue investigating Trump under the umbrella of an official impeachment inquiry inspired by a whistleblower report that accused the president of trying to get the new leader of Ukraine to look into the former vice president and his son Hunter.
The complaint alleges Trump withheld military aid to exert pressure on President Volodymyr Zelensky to go along with the probe.

Giuliani has become a key figure in the saga, with the president asking Zelensky on the July 25 phone call to work with his personal lawyer.

Giuliani has also become a prominent face in the scandal, defending the president — and claiming the Bidens have something to hide — during television appearances all week, including on Sunday.
