The recall specifically targets trucks with a single exhaust system. The issue involves potential damage to the wiring harness due to contact with the rear axle housing, which can lead to the electric parking brake unexpectedly activating, as reported by the automaker.
While the company is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the issue, Ford said it has received 918 warranty claims and three field reports about the wire chafing issue in North America. Out of those, 299 cases had the electric parking brake going off unexpectedly, including 19 while driving.
Dealers will install a protective tie strap, tape wrap and replace the harness as necessary.
