The numbers: The U.S. private sector added 497,000 jobs in June, according to the payroll-services firm ADP, compared with a revised 267,000 in May. The increase reported Thursday was the biggest since July 2022.
Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had forecast a gain of 220,000 private-sector jobs.
