Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.49%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.49%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which rose 11.49% or 386.00 points to trade at 3,744.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) added 3.70% or 115.00 points to end at 3,223.00 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) was up 3.08% or 105.00 points to 3,510.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751), which fell 4.08% or 45.50 points to trade at 1,069.00 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) declined 3.44% or 22.60 points to end at 634.00 and Z Holdings Corp (TYO:4689) was down 2.67% or 9.40 points to 343.30.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2101 to 1462 and 275 ended unchanged.

Shares in Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) rose to 5-year highs; rising 11.49% or 386.00 to 3,744.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.62% to 20.98.

Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.49% or 0.34 to $69.71 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.43% or 0.32 to hit $74.67 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.18% or 3.45 to trade at $1,937.25 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.00% to 143.49, while EUR/JPY rose 0.23% to 156.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 102.20.
