India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.97%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.97% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.02%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which rose 2.73% or 66.55 points to trade at 2,506.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.63% or 24.90 points to end at 969.90 and Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) was up 2.28% or 78.35 points to 3,514.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which fell 1.36% or 2.25 points to trade at 163.75 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 0.77% or 13.05 points to end at 1,688.30 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was down 0.62% or 29.00 points to 4,615.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 2.79% to 2,506.55, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.75% to settle at 970.65 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 2.02% to close at 1,138.60.

The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 0.63% to 817.85 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 0.36% to settle at 237.05 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.03% to 174.40 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1060 to 862 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1866 rose and 1503 declined, while 135 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.95% to 11.90.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.44% or 8.60 to $1,952.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.56% or 0.40 to hit $72.23 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.22 to trade at $76.48 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.21% to 82.56, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 88.69.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 103.92.
