India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.27%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.27% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.29%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which rose 2.78% or 31.70 points to trade at 1,172.30 at the close. Meanwhile, HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) added 1.80% or 9.95 points to end at 562.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 1.60% or 3.90 points to 247.30 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which fell 1.96% or 13.60 points to trade at 680.80 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 1.30% or 64.25 points to end at 4,869.00 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 0.45% or 5.70 points to 1,265.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 2.84% to 1,172.75, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.83% to settle at 247.70 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.24% to close at 6,631.20.

The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.33% to 4,865.00 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 0.59% to settle at 1,263.10 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.41% to 953.80 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1044 to 883 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1756 rose and 1618 declined, while 138 ended unchanged.

Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) rose to all time highs; up 1.60% or 3.90 to 247.30. Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) rose to all time highs; rising 1.83% or 4.45 to 247.70.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.19% to 13.08 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.20% or 4.15 to $2,038.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.15% or 0.85 to hit $72.86 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.10% or 0.85 to trade at $76.59 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.06% to 82.02, while EUR/INR fell 0.14% to 89.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 101.50.
