Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.23%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.23%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Megaport Ltd (ASX:MP1), which rose 41.46% or 1.65 points to trade at 5.63 at the close. Meanwhile, Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS) added 7.07% or 0.28 points to end at 4.24 and Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) was up 5.02% or 0.15 points to 3.14 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH), which fell 6.06% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.55 at the close. Perenti Global Ltd (ASX:PRN) declined 4.15% or 0.05 points to end at 1.15 and Ampol Ltd (ASX:ALD) was down 3.54% or 1.10 points to 29.93.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 710 to 606 and 401 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.03% to 11.69 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.41% or 8.25 to $1,990.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $74.80 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.18% or 0.14 to trade at $78.36 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.57% to 0.66, while AUD/JPY rose 0.75% to 89.48.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 101.64.
