Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.11%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.11%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233), which rose 3.71% or 74.00 points to trade at 2,068.00 at the close. Meanwhile, J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:3086) added 3.34% or 46.00 points to end at 1,423.00 and Nikon Corp. (TYO:7731) was up 2.95% or 38.00 points to 1,324.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9532), which fell 1.72% or 38.00 points to trade at 2,166.00 at the close. SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) declined 1.64% or 85.00 points to end at 5,094.00 and Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) was down 1.55% or 100.00 points to 6,360.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1924 to 1563 and 335 ended unchanged.

Shares in Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.71% or 74.00 to 2,068.00. Shares in J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:3086) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 3.34% or 46.00 to 1,423.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.37% to 16.04 a new 1-month low.

Crude oil for June delivery was down 1.67% or 1.32 to $77.92 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 1.59% or 1.32 to hit $81.80 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.10% or 2.05 to trade at $2,009.35 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 134.54, while EUR/JPY fell 0.07% to 147.43.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 101.64.
