BABA’s latest large language model has been named Tongyi Qianwen, which translates to “truth from a thousand questions.”
Both the company’s customers and developers will have access to the model to create customised AI features. In a demonstration, the AI language model drafted invitation letters, wrote emails, and provided shopping tips.
“We are at a technological watershed moment driven by generative AI and cloud computing, and businesses across all sectors have started to embrace intelligence transformation to stay ahead of the game,” commented Daniel Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group and CEO of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.
The unveiling of Tongyi Qianwen was followed by the Chinese government’s publication of draft rules explaining how generative AI services should be managed, stating that it supports the technology but that content generated must abide by China’s “core socialist values” and data security and personal information protection laws.
