Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.02%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.02%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Appen Ltd (ASX:APX), which rose 10.95% or 0.30 points to trade at 3.04 at the close. Meanwhile, Nuix Ltd (ASX:NXL) added 9.44% or 0.11 points to end at 1.27 and Iress Ltd (ASX:IRE) was up 5.81% or 0.54 points to 9.84 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Gold Road Resources Ltd (ASX:GOR), which fell 3.88% or 0.07 points to trade at 1.61 at the close. Cromwell Property Group (ASX:CMW) declined 2.65% or 0.02 points to end at 0.55 and Charter Hall Long WALE REIT (ASX:CLW) was down 2.12% or 0.09 points to 4.15.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 810 to 442 and 357 ended unchanged.

Shares in Cromwell Property Group (ASX:CMW) fell to 5-year lows; losing 2.65% or 0.02 to 0.55.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 8.90% to 12.64.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.10% or 2.05 to $1,986.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.48% or 0.35 to hit $73.32 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.30 to trade at $77.89 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.47% to 0.67, while AUD/JPY rose 0.05% to 88.82.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 102.17.
