Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.08%

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.08%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506), which rose 4.28% or 220.00 points to trade at 5,360.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (TYO:3863) added 3.52% or 37.00 points to end at 1,089.00 and Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704) was up 2.56% or 160.00 points to 6,410.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770), which fell 5.41% or 74.00 points to trade at 1,294.00 at the close. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) declined 4.11% or 140.00 points to end at 3,265.00 and Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) was down 3.02% or 110.00 points to 3,532.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1847 to 1752 and 234 ended unchanged.

Shares in Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.28% or 220.00 to 5,360.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.20% to 16.59.

Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.83% or 0.63 to $76.31 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 0.73% or 0.60 to hit $82.64 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.37% or 6.75 to trade at $1,818.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.17% to 136.43, while EUR/JPY rose 0.01% to 144.48.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 104.81.
