At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.02%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.05%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 2.00%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.87% or 0.81 points to trade at 29.07 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 2.33% or 3.92 points to end at 171.89 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.99% or 4.94 points to 252.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which fell 3.10% or 5.93 points to trade at 185.19 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 2.37% or 5.99 points to end at 246.41 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was down 1.53% or 2.66 points to 171.36.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which rose 12.63% to 84.64, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:ODFL) which was up 10.32% to settle at 367.62 and Stryker Corporation (NYSE:SYK) which gained 9.91% to close at 278.97.
The worst performers were WestRock Co (NYSE:WRK) which was down 12.72% to 34.25 in late trade, Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) which lost 9.26% to settle at 116.76 and Chubb Ltd (NYSE:CB) which was down 6.11% to 213.59 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Versus Systems Inc (NASDAQ:VS) which rose 172.09% to 1.66, Bright Green Corp (NASDAQ:BGXX) which was up 171.77% to settle at 1.42 and Golden Sun Education Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GSUN) which gained 125.66% to close at 3.43.
The worst performers were Cyren Ltd (NASDAQ:CYRN) which was down 37.84% to 0.46 in late trade, Taysha Gene Therapies Inc (NASDAQ:TSHA) which lost 26.22% to settle at 1.21 and Evelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:EVLO) which was down 25.11% to 0.78 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2185 to 860 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2471 rose and 1195 declined, while 173 ended unchanged.
Shares in Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:ODFL) rose to all time highs; up 10.32% or 34.38 to 367.62. Shares in Stryker Corporation (NYSE:SYK) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 9.91% or 25.16 to 278.97. Shares in Cyren Ltd (NASDAQ:CYRN) fell to all time lows; falling 37.84% or 0.28 to 0.46. Shares in Taysha Gene Therapies Inc (NASDAQ:TSHA) fell to all time lows; down 26.22% or 0.43 to 1.21. Shares in Evelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:EVLO) fell to all time lows; down 25.11% or 0.26 to 0.78.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.84% to 17.88 a new 52-week low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.12% or 21.80 to $1,967.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.57% or 2.03 to hit $76.84 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.68% or 2.29 to trade at $83.17 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.12% to 1.10, while USD/JPY fell 0.84% to 128.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.91% at 100.99.
