India stocks mixed at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.01%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.01%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.06%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 3.37% or 13.75 points to trade at 422.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) added 3.21% or 270.15 points to end at 8,687.25 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 1.78% or 64.40 points to 3,687.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which fell 2.43% or 22.70 points to trade at 910.00 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 2.05% or 10.15 points to end at 484.05 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was down 2.02% or 87.60 points to 4,250.25.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 3.27% to 8,698.60, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 1.47% to settle at 1,137.65 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 1.35% to close at 1,695.30.

The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 2.50% to 910.05 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 2.00% to settle at 4,251.80 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.76% to 221.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1188 to 701 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1894 fell and 1484 advanced, while 139 ended unchanged.

Shares in HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 1.35% or 22.65 to 1,695.30.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.29% to 13.66.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.52% or 10.10 to $1,938.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $81.58 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $88.14 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.18% to 81.62, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 88.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 101.84.
