Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google is in pole position to win the race for NFL Sunday Ticket rights, according to the Wall Street Journal. The meeting of NFL owners is due to take place today at which they could approve the multi-billion dollar deal with the tech behemoth.

If approved, the football league would give exclusive rights to Google’s YouTube to NFL Sunday Ticket. Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has its own deal with NFL while Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has deals for Major League Baseball (MLB) and Major League Soccer (MLS), with the latter worth at least $2.5 billion.

NFL Sunday Ticket is a subscription-only package that allows customers to watch all out-of-market Sunday afternoon games. The rights are currently owned by DirecTV, which is co-owned by AT&T (NYSE:T) and private-equity firm TPG (NASDAQ:TPG). If a deal with Google goes through, NFL Sunday Ticket would be available on YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime Channels starting from the next season.

Google is trying to boost subscription revenue for YouTube, which is experiencing a slowdown in its primary advertising business. YouTube TV comes at $64.99-a-month.
