At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.75% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.67%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 3.86% or 48.50 points to trade at 1,305.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.38% or 14.75 points to end at 450.70 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 2.48% or 90.60 points to 3,750.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which fell 1.08% or 12.80 points to trade at 1,167.80 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 1.00% or 6.10 points to end at 602.45 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was down 0.67% or 2.30 points to 340.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 4.00% to 1,307.20, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 2.16% to settle at 7,076.75 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 2.14% to close at 224.00.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.07% to 1,167.35 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 0.97% to settle at 602.50 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 0.66% to 1,120.65 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1168 to 712 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1967 rose and 1406 declined, while 104 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.41% to 13.81.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.41% or 24.65 to $1,773.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.19% or 1.71 to hit $79.91 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.02% or 1.70 to trade at $85.95 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.23% to 81.43, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 84.39.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 106.47.
