“‘America does better when its leaders are rooted in today and tomorrow, not today and yesterday. It is time for the Republican Party to turn to a new generation of leaders, and I intend to support one of them in the presidential primaries.’”
Those were the words of Stephen Schwarzman, CEO of private-equity giant Blackstone
BX,
as he became the latest billionaire Republican megadonor to say he won’t support former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign for the White House.
Schwarzman’s comments, first reported by Axios, came after another GOP megadonor, Ken Griffin, also indicated he wouldn’t back Trump’s third presidential run. Griffin, CEO of hedge fund Citadel, told Bloomberg News on Tuesday that Trump was a “three-time loser” and that he was hoping the former president would make way for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
