Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.34%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV), which rose 6.02% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Perenti Global Ltd (ASX:PRN) added 5.32% or 0.05 points to end at 0.99 and Orica Ltd (ASX:ORI) was up 4.36% or 0.56 points to 13.39 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML), which fell 6.90% or 0.05 points to trade at 0.68 at the close. Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH) declined 6.64% or 0.14 points to end at 1.97 and Megaport Ltd (ASX:MP1) was down 4.91% or 0.38 points to 7.36.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 765 to 501 and 358 ended unchanged.

Shares in EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.90% or 0.05 to 0.68.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.01% to 19.66.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.23% or 3.80 to $1,671.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.45% or 1.32 to hit $89.81 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.30% or 1.25 to trade at $94.94 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.51% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY fell 0.57% to 91.31.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 113.12.
