At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.98%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which rose 5.83% or 251.15 points to trade at 4,559.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 5.40% or 56.00 points to end at 1,092.30 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 4.24% or 37.10 points to 911.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM), which fell 0.94% or 221.00 points to trade at 23,180.10 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 0.81% or 14.15 points to end at 1,735.20 and Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) was down 0.76% or 142.90 points to 18,622.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 4.71% to 915.75, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 3.12% to settle at 1,264.20 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which gained 2.88% to close at 4,217.10.
The worst performers were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.64% to 18,645.55 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 0.19% to settle at 232.55 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.14% to 1,388.35 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1182 to 659 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1994 rose and 1333 declined, while 124 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.40% or 56.00 to 1,092.30. Shares in IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.12% or 38.20 to 1,264.20.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.73% to 18.80.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.10% or 1.60 to $1,676.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.18% or 0.15 to hit $85.21 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.05 to trade at $92.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 79.71, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 79.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 109.56.
