Shares of Uber (NYSE:UBER) are down nearly 5% in premarket Friday trading after the ride-sharing company said it has experienced a security breach.
Uber said it was forced to shut down internal Slack messaging as it investigates the breach. Bloomberg reported that employees received a message on Slack on Thursday saying “I am a hacker.”
The hacker allegedly gained access to Uber’s internal databases. Another report noted the hacker has been identified as an 18-year-old who managed to gain access to internal systems. He then posted an explicit photo on an internal information page for employees.
Uber spokesman New York Times that the company is investigating the breach and has been in touch with law enforcement officials.
